I love this location by Golden Gate park so I'm glad there's another one here! The beef is always tender and prepared so well, and matches the quality at Richmond. I didn't love the flavor of the spicy one, but still enjoyed the surrounding elements such as the fresh chewy noodles and the egg is actually marinated very well and cooked soft boiled to perfection. I always stop in when the location is convenient!

Was craving ramen and stumbled upon this spot with my big sister. It was a lucky surprise for sure, as prices were more than decent for a ramen restaurant and the food was just as great! This ramen is unique in the sense that everything here is beef based from beef broth to beef pieces being the topping. Even their Karage and katsu are beef! It's nice to see a unique ramen spot with a twist because usually with Ramen places you expect the basic chicken and pork broths (which are good as well), but it's nice to have a different option! Waiter was kind as well, and the interior ambiance and dining area was nice. Definitely give this spot a try if you're interested in a beef broth ramen, and if you're feeling crazy add some bone marrow and black garlic oil!!!

Very good beef-based ramen! My friend enjoyed the vegan ramen with black garlic. Not much in way of atmosphere as it is a tiny spot but the food was worth it!

Love the ramen here. We had the traditional paitan ramen and the spicy ramen. Both were excellent. The beef slices are a little chewy at first. I recommend dunking them in the broth upon receiving your bowl and giving them a few extra minutes to cook. I got garlic oil for the traditional paitan and it definitely added some flare. I also got a side of bone marrow, which has a decent amount of marrow inside, but felt like I couldn't appreciate it that much because the broth was so rich to begin with. Will probably skip it next time. We tried the crispy mushrooms appetizer too. It was super light and crunchy, and came with a good amount of mushrooms. It's on a street with little foot traffic so you shouldn't have to wait long to get a table. Service is good and food comes out pretty quick. Overall great ramen spot in soma.

Ushi Taro Ramen | San Francisco 1. Spicy Ramen -- beef bone broth, roasted beef fillet, oyster mushrooms, onset egg, house red chili, and truffle 2. Crispy Mushrooms -- himeji mushroom in light tempura batter with Ushi Taro Ramen in San Francisco is a cozy Japanese restaurant known for its rich and flavorful ramen bowls made with slow-cooked broths. Located in the Lower Nob Hill, it offers a variety of ramen options, including tonkotsu, miso, and spicy! The restaurant itself is super small but the ramen is top tier in terms of quality. I got my hands on the spicy ramen and the crispy mushrooms!

We passed by this place on the drive home and were super intrigued because we've never had a beef based ramen before. This seems to be a second location since there's another in SF, but this SOMA location is pretty out of the way. It doesn't seem like the type of area where you'd just be walking around since there's not that many stores on the street. As appetizers, we tried the beef karaage and crispy mushrooms. Both were a bit on the oily side, but still super delicious! I was impressed with how generous they were on the amount of crispy mushrooms. For the ramen, we tried the classic paitan with bone marrow and hiyashi chuka. My favorite was the paitan because it had the perfect balance of flavors with the beef broth. I thought the beef fillet in the ramen was good, but I definitely missed the fatty chashu in typical pork-based ramens. The hiyashi chuka was a cold noodle that we were interested in trying. The noodles were cooked well, but the broth was on the saltier side. Overall, I definitely recommend coming here if you're interested in trying a beef based ramen!

I've gone to the other location before, but I was happy to see that Ushi Taro opened up another location in the SoMA. I've been raving to all my friends and coworkers that I really loved this place, especially because you can order bone marrow with your ramen to jazz it up. My bestie and I (we both work together) ended up taking an uber to get Ushi Taro for lunch! It was her first time here, and we came around 11:30-12ish. There was only 1 other party in the restaurant, but it did start getting busy when it was around lunch time. This location is on a busy street, so parking can be tricky to find. I'd recommend getting here a bit early to find street parking if you can. Otherwise, ride share is your friend! Compared to the other location, this one seemed slightly smaller but it did accommodate more parties against the wall and there were tables scattered around the restaurant. The decor was more modern and simple, which I liked. My bestie and I got seated along the wall where we were able to sit with right next to each other. There was only 1 server present, but he was very attentive and made sure to check on us throughout our meal. We both ended up ordering the following: -1 Spicy Ramen $17 +$10 bone marrow +$2 for black garlic oil -1 Spicy Miso Kimchi $18 +10 bone marrow I don't remember what our total was since my bestie ended up paying up front and I sent her my portion after. It was probably between $40-50 for two people. I've had the spicy ramen before and it's delicious! I absolutely love the steak you get alongside all the toppings it comes with. The bone marrow and the black garlic oil definitely hit the spottttt. It's not everyday you can order both at the same time. The broth was rich, the perfect level of spice, and perfect on a cold day. My bestie ended up liking her ramen too and thoroughly enjoyed the bone marrow too! Everything was perfectly balanced and it was a great portion. Ushi Taro is on the top of my list when it comes to ramen. They elevate ramen so well and everything is seasoned just right. Definitely recommend trying this place out (at either location). I believe the prices are fair for the quality you get and the service here is amazing!

I've been a long-time Ushi Taro fan so I'm excited about this new location in SoMa! Everything in their menu is exactly like their original location in Sunset. My favorite thing to get is the Spicy Ramen: spicy beef bone broth with tender beef cuts, thin mushroom slices, green onion, truffle, and egg. This ramen is perfectly spicy and you can tell that there's a lot of care that goes into making it. If you're not feeling ramen, I recommend the Gyudon or Beef Karaage. Service is amazing and quick and the location is reminiscent of traditional Japanese ramen shops, which all make the dining experience that much better. You have to try this spot out!

Wow - simply awesome. Truly a standout ramen that is in my top 2 places stateside. The agedashi tofu has a thicker batter than I am accustomed to but was not overbearing. Light, tasty sauce, and generous portion. The ramen was fantastic. I typically prefer denser/thicker broths but this ramen proved you could have a light body with equivalent (and arguably more) depth of flavor. My spicy broth was delicious but my fiancé's shoyu took the crown. The noodles were the perfect consistency, egg golden and gooey, and I loved that there were thick hearty prices of mushroom. Prior to this visit, I would've said chashu is a ramen necessity. But holy cow, never did I imagine a beef filet to be such a perfect pairing. The cook was spot on with great flavor and unreal tenderness. This is a MUST visit for any ramen fan!

I've been to their Inner Sunset location a couple of times but didn't know they opened a spot on a somewhat desolate stretch of 8th Street in SoMa. That's good news for me because it's a lot closer to me plus I happen to favor their non-ramen dishes. It's not that I don't like a piping hot bowl every now and then, but the sodium kicks in at the most inopportune times. Good thing the menu here provides a diverse offering. Dropping by a couple of times now, I've been quite satisfied with the food I ordered. First up was the $9 Gyoza, beef dumplings pan-fried so that it comes epoxied together in one crispy sheet of paper-thin dough (photo: https://yelp.to/NC-O_5URDa). Accompanied by a sesame oil dipping sauce, it was a midnight Ginza back alley delight in the middle of the day. Next up was the $8 Crispy Mushroom, a generous pile of lightly battered shimeji mushroom tempura (photo: https://yelp.to/MIKqYeU9J-). It was satisfying like a bowl of popcorn shrimp. My second visit yielded my personal favorite, the $18 Curry Rice where they mix bites of sautéed beef tenderloin with a glossy Japanese curry made with carrots, potato, and red onion. A cup of milky beef broth (photo: https://yelp.to/eOx2S_5YzY) and a soy sauce half-egg completed the plate (photo: https://yelp.to/wtbMlmPEpc). It honestly tasted like Dotonburi-style comfort food, and that's high praise indeed. I'll get to the ramen eventually, so hopefully they'll stick around. FOOD - 4 stars...authentic Japanese goodness from what I can tell AMBIANCE - 4 stars...they make the most of a small place SERVICE - 4.5 stars...quite an attentive crew TOTAL - 4 stars...Japanese comfort food done well RELATED - Exploring western SoMa?
